Strike Out Cancer is HCB2’s awareness and fundraising event which targets the local high schools. The event involves a bowling competition among local rival high schools and brings colorectal cancer education into the schools. As diagnosis of colorectal cancer is rising in the 20-34 year old population, it’s imperative to bring students education about symptoms, family history and screening options. These students are then encouraged to bring the information into their homes and discuss with their loved ones who most likely are at the age for routine screening. The event is a win-win on many levels!
The Fourth Annual Strike Out Cancer was a hit! Thank you Haley Toyota of Richmond for being our presenting sponsor. Thank you to Melissa and Jack from 103.7 and the NBC 12 Morning Crew for joining in on the fun! Manchester, Clover Hill, Midlothian, and James River high schools battled it out on the lanes to help raise awareness and funds for local efforts in colorectal cancer prevention. $18,000 was raised! Thank you to these super Chesterfield County High Schools for taking the lead in highlighting the second cancer killer in our country – colorectal cancer.
