Can We Talk about Strike Out Cancer? March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and to celebrate HCB2’s Strike Out Cancer is back!
Tuesday – March 5, 2019 @ Bowl America Southwest, 11532 Hull Street, Midlothian VA 23112
The 2018 Strike Out Cancer was a hit! Thank you Haley Toyota of Richmond for being our presenting sponsor. Thank you to Melissa and Jack from 103.7 and the NBC 12 Morning Crew for joining in on the fun! Manchester, Clover Hill, Midlothian, and James River high schools battled it out on the lanes to help raise awareness and funds for local efforts in colorectal cancer prevention. $18,000 was raised! Thank you to these super Chesterfield County High Schools for taking the lead in highlighting the second cancer killer in our country – colorectal cancer.
Strike Out Cancer, HCB2’s awareness and fundraising event which targets local high schools, is coming back on Tuesday, March 5th. This is year five and it keeps getting bigger every year. In addition to competing with one another to see which school can raise the most money, there is a bowling competition and a message intended to bring colorectal cancer education into the schools. As diagnosis of colorectal cancer is rising in the 20-34 year old population, it’s imperative to bring students education about symptoms, family history and screening options. These students are then encouraged to bring the information into their homes and discuss with their loved ones who most likely are at the age for routine screening. The event is a win-win on many levels!
